Yes, there is a thread on this somewhere on the board. I went along to the screening back in April and it was great. Lots of input from Jarvis, Candida, Nick, Russell and Hawley, and lots of backstory that's relevant to Pulp (miners' strike, the Wicker factory building, FON Records etc).

They made a film of it? The music scene in Sheffield wasn't that good in my opinion, not then anyway. I saw & heard most of the bands around at that time & there were only two worth seeing - Pulp & Treebound Story. The rest was pretty forgettable.
It's mainly about the scene around FON - Chakk, Rob Gordon etc. It's been conceived mainly as a follow-up to Made in Sheffield if you've seen/heard of that? See http://www.sheffieldvision.com/

Hiya Mark I see. I guess Fon did do their bit for Sheffield, but then there was too much focus on the 'industrial' Sheffield bands during that period. I sometimes think that's why Hawley, Pulp etc found success later on in life. The 80's Sheffield scene seemed to sweep the guitar driven bands under the carpet in my opinion. There was an us & them mentality during that time i.e industrial/electronica vs the proper bands. Is that touched upon in the film?
I'm not sure it is really. To be honest the way Pulp are included feels a little bit awkward because they don't really fit into that side of things. It's obvious they're mainly there as a result of having made it 10 years later. I'm glad they are though. Dave Taylor's story of taking the FON recordings down to London to try and get interest from labels is entertaining!

I get updates from The Beat is the Law blog via Google Reader. Here's the most recent. If you're near Sheffield, you can meet Russell, or least be in the same room!!
Also The Beat is the Law's website looks like it was recently redesigned. And there's some video clips including a trailer and some interviews with Jarvis, Russell and Hawley. Good stuff. The doc looks cool.
