According to my local paper. Jarvis is officially launching the reopening of Chalkwell Hall (no, you won't have heard of it, unless, like me you happen to live 5 minutes down the road from it). Apparently he is performing, but it is invite only! GUTTED! Jarvis (bizarrely) comes to my crappy little insignificant town, and I don't even get to see him. Wonder if I wait outside, I might catch him - could be there for hours though -anyone have any idea how early 'celebrities' are likely to arrive for such events?
Woo hoo! Got down there a bit early, and managed to wrestle Jarvis away from the officials and the photography so I could get my vinyl copy of Further Complications signed, and have a very brief chat.
First time I have met Jarvis, so my day today is more than made!

I told him, as he was signing it, how much I liked Further Complications (which is true- honest!). And I also told him that I had no invite, and had just come to stalk him - mainly because I was a bit embarrassed at having to dive in and interupt the 'officials' that were trying to take him away, but it was a 'now or never' moment. I seemed to be the only fan/stalker there, which made it a bit easier, I suppose.
Sarah - he has grey in his hair as well as his beard, so i don't think he dyes it.
I would have said more to him. Is it because it is Jarvis' preference or do you all genuinely just buy things on vinyl when it's available? It seems as though everyone owns things he has done on vinyl. A nightmare trying to get Jarvis on vinyl now, i refuse to pay the exceptionally high second hand prices. Are either albums on a heavyweight vinyl or just standard weight?
I prefer vinly over cd anyday. I love the whole process of getting the record out of the sleeve, putting it on the turntable, dropping the needle and waiting for that first crackle. Far more exciting than putting on a cd. And I also like having a side B to turn over to, and how your copy becomes personalised over time by the little scratches and crackles ( just little ones, mind).
Guys at Rough Trade wouldn't get me a copy of Jarvis on vinyl and insisted there were no more left (yeah right the place is full of vinyl) but i guess one day they may get re released.
