'kin hell...I thought I'd seen all the obscure Pulp tv bits there were...

Maybe this was done for English tv and used on an Asian (Japanese, I'm presuming) programme. I can't imagine a Japanese music tv show having any interest in interviewing Pulp/promoting the Countdown single. At this stage they were barely known outside of Rotherham never mind Tokyo! (I know the MLG single of the week in the NME had got thinks moving a bit but still...)
I suppose, even as a long-running, unsuccesful indie band, a bit of promo for tv in Japan wouldn't be that surprising had they played a few shows there at that time but that's not the case...It was only the French who gave a toss about Pulp in '91 wasn't it?
 


*I'd forgotten how fucking brilliant Countdown is. Haven't listened to Seperations in quite a while. I think I prefer the single mix of Countdown too.
 
Oh and no wonder girls love(d) Steve. Apart from being a handsome swine, he's so nice and polite...letting Jarvis ramble on..

reminds me of that bitesize interview with Jarvis and Russel from 199....5? Where Jarvis also rambles.. poor Russel and Steve! Even though Jarvis is charming when he talks about people from university..

Blimey, fantastic find there Eamonn. I have no idea where it might have come from... best guess would be that it was originally tacked to either the New Sessions or Class of '91 programme, but I really don't know.

Wow...nice to see there are still some surprises out there. Had no-one even heard of this appearance before now?

Gives me more confidence in the the notion that if there is someone who has got a piece of footage like this, then surely someone out there must have the New Sessions!

I'm sure there's a term for it in ''reportage'' circles but you get that a bit on programmes (typically music & film review shows) that are licensed to various tv networks over the world. Probably cos they don't want to advertise the original programme that the interviewer works for.

I'll go with the second suggestion!  Whatever it's known as, it's annoying because it takes you the entire length of the answer to figure out what they were asked (unless that's just me?).
Someone I know from another band forum sent me a link to that as well yesterday - because I continually bang on about Pulp on there too - gotta spread the word!

One of the extras on  the Dr Strangelove DVD is a series of interviews with the actors in which they pause for questions which aren't been asked.  The idea I believe was that all local stations would use the footage, with filmed inserts of their own reporter asking the questions.  Seems like there would be endless scope for fun for the wayward TV presenter, rewording questions to make the answers look silly, but maybe this is the grandaddy of interviews which don't pause for questions at all.

What about the guy who appears in the first seconds.. does he belongs in there? sadly I don't think he does and that some one just didn't edit him out. The fact that the questions aren't included doesn't really bother me, it looks like he's looking at someone (even if it's very sporadicly).

I know what he means about wanting to nudge people and say 'you're not really into all that are you' - it shocks me how excited people in an office get over a new fax machine when I'm temping places - you just think 'there is more to life...' lol
