Is it just me, or is anyone else reminded of "Like a Friend" during the extended bits?

Indeed! It does remind me of that song. Perhaps it is a rehearsal for that new song, popped it after this song. But what does he sing?

If I remember rightly, what he sang seemed to vary from performance to performance...

I don't think he's singing anything as such - it's just garbled tra-la-la-ing with the odd word thrown in, as he always does when he's not got round to writing proper lyrics. You do wonder sometimes how he ever got away with it!

I always loved this version. He did seem to make it up as he went along. I know what you mean about Like A Friend. The latter version from 2001/2002 when it slows down at the end sounds a bit like the quiet bit at the end of LAF.

This "technique" of his has always made me smile. I think it's the L'Olympic '93 French gig where there are some particularly shameless ones. From what I remember, the Pink Glove performance is nearly all just made up on the spot apart from the first couple of lines and the chorus which has some vague structure...and also the then titled Typ Trop (Acrylic Afternoons).

Would it be wrong of me to suggest that he may have pushed his luck a little bit more when he was performing to a crowd that might not have understood every word anyway?

I've never watched this performance before. It seems like Jarvis was always keen to air new songs as quickly as possible, and basically rehearse them live. Had to chuckle to myself a little bit at the start of "I took her to a supermarket" where he attempted to go an octave higher...realised it didn't work and quickly changed his mind! no
