This is the only new song we heard in Buenos Aires. I think we are in front of the most pulpy song in Jarvis' solo carreer. It could easily fit in the second disc of This is Hardcore's Deluxe Edition (it ressembles like a mix between Your are the One and Street Operator) Also the midsection of the song is quintessential Pulp (the beat there reminds me to Babies) Really catchy.

But judge for yourselves. Someone in the audience recorded the song entirely: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tmSNXa7qQfs

Jarv carried Albert's guitar in Buenos Aires I asked him "is that Albert's?" "Yeah I use it to write songs" Jarvis smiled. So I guess he's in the writing stage and more songs will come out on the surface during the European gigs.

Cheers
little teeth

PS: I had the chance to see them live thanks to Steve and Ross. I bumped into them when I was walking on the street. When I said I wasn't going because the ticket was too expensive Steve kindly wrote my name in a piece of paper. The night of the show my name was in the guestlist. I love him!

That's great, thanks for posting.

On the basis of one listen, I think Girls Like It Too might be a bit of a classic. Isn't it strange how no matter what guitarist he works with (right from Russell onwards), they all end up playing that same one-string guitar style?

Great song! Very Pulp-y. All it needs is some Farfisa from Candida.

Also, Little Teeth, that's very cool of Steve to put you on the guest list!

Thanks for the link, Little Teeth.

He really does sound '60s these days, doesn't he?  It's good, but in the back of my mind it's still What Would Russell Do?

I see your point, but I've always felt that the experimental aspects that Russell (and Steve and Mark) brought into Pulp wouldn't have been all that worthwhile without Jarvis' unique lyrics, vocals and style. So, I think even if his music's gotten more conservative, relatively speaking, there's always going to be a uniqueness that you can't get anywhere else. It will be a long time, I hope, before Jarvis' music becomes ordinary.

yeah, it's in my head already.  i think jarv's got his sea legs now.  i think the new one could have two or three of these.  it would be interesting to know the order that the songs on the debut were written (i'd bet they get better the later they were created, which would mean good things for his sophomore effort.)

what's wrong with Jarvis sounding 60s ? I think its great personnally, and that was that 60s sounds that made his debut good.

This song is a gem. Only Jarvis can write tunes likes this, which so much melancholy in a catchy melody. I really really hope we have an album on the way.

To my ears the guitar part on this song sounds exactly like what Russell would do!

mmm wow!

on first listen I didn't really get it... then I realised that I was still singing it two hours later!
Just listened again and I totally love it.
God, I hope we get some UK dates over the summer.

BTW LittleTeeth - loved your story about Steve and Ross - really glad you got to go to the show!

I've been listening it a lot last week!

Sturdy, I'm not very keen on music so I'm not sure what a one-string guitar style is. I'll give it a try the guitar part in Lipgloss would make a valid example? If that so I got it but I can't think a post-Russell example, Bob Lind maybe? It's strange indeed. I can only guess Jarvis comes up with this guitar bits and suggests them to the musicians. Maybe as a guitar player he was influenced by Russell. And I don't know why but I have the sense that Steve might be involved somehow because -if I'm right about one-string guitar style is- his basslines have that feeling too. Maybe because bass is played string by string (am I right?)

JayJay, yeah Steve and Ross were really nice. The second night we (my girlfriend and I) didn't get to see the show but we brought them presents to thank them. Before getting into the venue for the show we caught Steve and gave him a couple of bags. Steve humblingly replied -"Are these for Jarvis?" -"Nooo!" we said -"This one only is for Jarvis, this one for you, that one for Ross and this is for the rest of the band" Mission acomplished so we went to eat some pizza. After the show we decided to wait for the band outside the venue to see if Steve got it right. I saw the tour manager -Liam a really nice guy too- on the street and I asked him about the presents. "Come with me" So we ended up in the backstage. Steve not only got it right he also asked us to sign the book we gave him. Ross too. I'll never forget lest week.

I like it!
Any chance someone with more patience &/or better speakers could transcribe the lyrics?
