Okay, well, it's been a while and I'm still stumped, so I might as well ask here.

Why does the site get a thank you (and a URL) in the booklets for the three Deluxe Edition reissued albums? Nobody said anything about it to me beforehand, and indeed nobody has said anything since, and I've no idea what we're being thanked for. But presumably someone here does. So... hello?

Could it be that this forum showed sufficient interest in Pulp rarities for the Deluxe editions to get the go-ahead?

See, I wondered about that, but there's only a couple of hundred registered members and about forty or fifty regular posters here and so it wouldn't have made sense commercially to release something just for nerds like us. If it was just that we somehow inspired the band themselves to dig out that old stuff and push for it to be released, that'd be fantastic, but I feel bad about claiming credit for something like that if it then turned out it was just because they needed to check the lyrics for "The Boss" or something.

Well it doesn't make market-place sense, but it's not as if the record company were the ones thanking Bar Italia, is it?  JC definitely wanted to get very far away from Pulp five years ago, maybe seeing the flame kept alive here reinstalled some of his faith.  Or maybe he realised he should be charging people for all those bootlegs we've got stored.

I always figured it's because the site has the lyrics for many of the b-sides and rarities, including near-indecipherable stuff like "Ladies' Man."

I think it's a genuine thank you because this is probably the most popular Pulp site on the web that is still up and running. The official one went down or was at least mothballed a few years ago. So they really appreciated the interest and support after all these years.

Speaking of which, apart from Acrylic Afternoons. Is there any other Pulp sites still up to date and functioning?

Pulpwiki.net has a lot of useful info. Lots of Jarvis solo set lists, so that's pretty up-to-date. Will runs that, right? Good job, Will!

I agree with that - the Pulp wiki is a great resource, along with Sturdy's http://mark-sturdy.co.uk/pulp/ and the afore mentioned http://www.acrylicafternoons.com/  Now if only that Bar Italia one could be ressurected (hint, hint).  The comments on the tracks were always illuminating, and though a lot of the other information is out there, they aren't. Sadly,  www.pulponline.com looks to have deceased.

As for the thank you, I don't know why, but I think it does show that there is some acknowledgement from the band of those that still admire and adore them.  Something I have always felt from Pulp (as opposed to some other acts) is a certain respect for their fans.  In the days of the Pulp fan club, I got some signed photos and any requests I made were always dealt with and fulfilled (Thanks to Alex in the main).  Also selling tickets to the fan club members first for certain gigs (Theatre Royal comes to mind) showed they cared.

It would be nice to think that our devotion to the cause during these last few dormant years was rewarded with the release of all the demos. Hardly likely though. After all Island/Universal were all for stuffing the second disc on each album solely with the contemporary b-sides and fleshing it out with the pointless remixes which DC and TIH era singles usually had. It was Jarvis who opposed this idea, thankfully and "went digging" for the 'new' songs.

No, it's probably that this site is/was before we got the builders in; the most reliant-looking (read "worryingly geeky") easy-to-access place with all the lyrics which look 99% accurate without being official that allowed them to research here. Or seeing as they still had to transcribe the unreleased demos anyway - unless Jarvis passed on his original lyric sheets, the high resolution jpegs of all the singles and album sleeves which each of the remasters' booklets contain, were possibly taken from here.

hi me and my friends are going out to soho sat nite to a school disco (we'll b dressed as school girls and boys) and the club finishes at 3 but we cant get a train home till 7.30am!! we are wondering if there are any pubs/clubs/bars that are open till bout 5-6am? we know bar italia is 24hr but want to know if there is anymore? and if there are will we b able to get in dressed up and how much entry is?

My webspace got hacked a while ago and I haven't got round to putting it back up. It's all a bit out-of-date anyway, there wasn't much on there that you can't now get on PulpWiki. Also, as the book is now out of print, I guess it's not particularly relevant anymore!

I remember that time, seems like it may have just been inspiring possibly. Many people, including myself, asking for mp3s of this B-side or another.

Then as luck would have it, the next year or so, deluxe versions came out with great quality versions of rare stuff.

I'm still hoping for more deluxe versions, but it may be a lost cause.
