I don't think it was Pulp v Blur but a lot of britpop kinda folk.

Here's some info here, although it still doesn't say who won.

I remember an article from The Face magazine about that match...well, I don't remember the article. I remember the picture of a topless woman with unfeasibly large breasts attacking Jarvis that accompanied it!!

Jarvis post-match quip re the sight of the model's cleavage bouncing in front of him: "It's the nearest I came to scoring all day".

there's some clips here of A football match with oasis and blur and pulp and also robbie williams is there and I dunno some other people probably.

there's a good handful of clips of jarvis and steve running around being generally not really great at football

http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist//RTV/1996/05/12/605310405/?s=jarvis+cocker&st=0&pn=1

i think there's a bit with jarvis talking as well but I don't remember

Wow, thanks Tricia. I thought Steve came off rather well in that footage. ;)

I remember reading that Blur beat Oasis, but not which team ultimately won. I think there were other teams playing, so they were probably all knocked out early.

Thanks Tricia! It says at the bottom of the video "Oasis lost out to Pulp 2-1" Who is actually playing from Pulp then? I see Steve and Jarvis

From the old official website:

Pulp in Soccer Shocker
Pulp made it through to the semi-finals of the Soccer Six charity football tournament at the weekend (12/5/96). The tournament, at Mile End Stadium, London, which raised money for the Noroff Music Therapy Centre was watched by a 4,000 strong crowd, and was eventually won by Reef.

Pulp's scores were as follows:
Pulp vs Northern Uproar 2-0
Pulp vs Oasis 2-1
QUARTER FINAL RESULTS
Pulp vs Massive Attack 1-1 (Pulp won 3-2 on penalties)
SEMI FINALS
Pulp vs Apollo 440 0-3
The Pulp side was made up of:
Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Steve Mackey (Pulp), Nick Banks (Pulp), Anthony Genn (Elastica), Justin Welch (Elastica), Colin Lish (Top Guard Security), Robbie Williams (ex-Take That), Nigel Coxon (Island Records)

Steve Mackey, Robbie Williams and Anthony Genn of the Pulp team all won Tournament Gold Star Awards for their individual contributions to the game.

Robbie Williams played for Pulp? That is odd, I thought he was more of an 'Oasis' man/friend.

Nice to see that Pulp had four 'actual' members playing. I wonder if the other band teams managed similar?

I think between the band and the staff / friends, Oasis had enough people to do a whole team, being a "football" band, which isnt the case for blur or Pulp.

I bet Nick was Goalie. Stands to reason.

Nick coaches a local girls football team here in Sheffield. One of my friends daughters plays for them.

There were two football matches I think - the one the footage is from was '96, and the one with the streaker was '95. There is definitely a little bit of footage of the latter out there, if memory serves from a programme about Lyndsey Dawn McKenzie (the streaker, who I think has since gone on to be quite famous in certain "circles"). I would look for it but I don't really fancy typing Lyndsey Dawn McKenzie into Google!

Am I crazy or did Liam just punch Damon in the gut in that second clip? And Jarvis TOTALLY runs (and jumps) like a girl - Steve seems pretty good though, couldn't spy Nick anywhere...

I remember Robbie W was in the papers for smoking a cigarette in front of the children. Where will that man's evil ever end?!

Do you think anyone shouted "Manon" when a burly defender was closing in on the Jarvster?
