Meltdown festival bill revealed
Jarvis Cocker has announced some acts
Jarvis Cocker has announced some acts for his Meltdown festival this summer.

Iggy & the Stooges, Motorhead, the Jesus and Mary Chain and The 13th Floor Elevators are amongst the first additions to the event which takes place on the London South Bank in June.

Cocker told The Observer: "It's pretty amazing to be able to programme a whole week like this, to get some of your heroes on and get to meet those people as well. Obviously it's a slight ego trip for me. I'm very proud to be able to present it, but I don't want it to just be all me, me, me; 'This is what I like'. I really want to find ways of getting the audience as involved as I possibly can.

"Some of it is my favourite things, or things that have had a formative effect on me. At the moment I'm interested in quite loud things. Meltdown starts off with Motorhead, something people probably wouldn't associate with me. The first concert I ever played with Pulp was in Rotherham in July 1980. We didn't have many songs of our own so we covered a Motorhead cover version of a Motown song called 'Leaving Here'."

Tickets for Meltdown go on sale at 9am, this Thursday.

Can't say I'm familiar with the 13th Floor Elevators, but the rest of the line-up thus far seems fairly predictable and not particularly exciting. Jarvis desperately wants us to believe he's a "rocker". I'm still not buying it.

My hero is turning into a Poseur. Most troublesome. If he books Bob Dylan, I'm out.

He books what he's told to book mostly im pretty sure, at least for headliners, he's got a say probably for a couple of bands but that's it. Promoters wont let him get obscure bands onstage, when what they want is to make millions. This curator thing is just for publicity

Heh?

Did Jarvis book John Barry? Now that's interesting.

On a completely unrelated note, I've been listening to Akira Ikufube's classic Godzilla movie soundtracks. They're great... If only somebody would just let me curate Meltdown.

That's gonna be it, according to the Alt-country.org forum.

Alright. This is proving to be more interesting now. I'm particularly curious about the Disney songbook performance. Will Jarvis be singing "A Whole New World"? Sounds like a can't miss event.

I agree - enough not to be too pissed off I'm missing it because I am holidaying in Scotland. John Barry and the DSS would have been good though.

Does anyone else think it was rather predictable that Jarvis got picked to curate this year?
