Lads! I don't actually have the Disco 2000 single and I've been searching online but I can't seem to find a list of the specific instruments played on this song. I was hoping any one of you might know what specific instrument Candida was playing on this one? You know the chords at the start, is it the Farfisa, the Moog or what? I honestly don't know the difference between these things and as I was writing a piece for college on music I would like to know exactly what the opening chords were played on! If anyone has the Disco 2000 single it might say what was played and who played what. You know the chords at the start? you know the bit I'm on about? If anyone knows or has any suggestion please do reply. Thanks in advance!
Thanks weed. I always say everything's the Farfisa cos I thought that was the main one Candida used but that's why I'm wondering on what songs do the Korg Trident or the MiniMoog come in! Cheers anyway, thought it might say on the single. Was looking all over the place on the internet and couldn't find anything.
As an owner of the same Farfisa organ, I have to say that I can't hear anything on that song that sounds like it at all. I can tell you at least that on the demo version of Ansaphone (on the deluxe edition), the main keyboard is a Roland Juno-6...although it doesn't sound so much like it on the single version. The Juno does definitely feature here and there on the proper version though.
Think you can rule out the Farfisa altogether though.
LeoVK - thanks a million. Oops - I was assuming that it was much the same on the demo as on the proper version despite Eamonn saying here a few weeks ago that they were different versions! I'm actually talking about the demo on the deluxe ed. I've never heard the proper one. So the keyboard doesn't sound the same on the two versions? I just wanted to know about the demo one so cheers Leo, that's all I wanted to know, thanks for that
That's cool...well, in that case you can be safe in the knowledge that it is a Roland Juno-6. There are a couple of other versions of that keyboard (the Juno-60 and Juno-106) that it could also be...although the model credited on the Different Class sleeve is a Juno-6, so it's probably safe to assume that is the version used on the Ansaphone demo.
Crikey you really know your keyboards You've helped me out a lot! Cheers Leo and what a lovely sound the Roland Juno-6 makes :) Cheers again. Good afternoon.
Jean, if you are writing an article about keyboards, why discuss a rarely heard demo version of a song that is widely known and available on a Top 10 hit single?
I'm just asking because, frankly, the final studio mix is way better than the demo version. You really should seek it out if you haven't already heard it.
Common People would actually be a really interesting track to pull apart, simply because there is so much on there! You should watch the "Making of..." documentary that was shown on the BBC (it's on YouTube at the moment). The way all the different elements are blended together to create this wall-of-noise is quite impressive.
Fuss free - it's not actually an article about keyboards. I'm doing a thesis on music subcultures and in the intro I wanted to write a little personal bit, you know, just to show what got me interested in music. I was going to talk about Pulp and something about the opening bars on the Farfisa (as I was going to say) but now I'll say Roland obviously. I can't actually post exactly what I'm going to write here because they pass everything through a plagiarism system and if I wrote exactly what I'm going to write in my thesis here well then they'd think it was plagiarised! Does that make sense? Sorry, I seem to have a knack for explaining things in a roundabout way! Yeah I saw the stuff on youtube about common people but there's just something about the demo Ansaphone. It's one of those very rare tunes that really, really moves me. You know the way that happens sometimes. It's all down to the keyboards. I knew from the opening that I was going to love that song. Hope I've explained my decision to use Ansaphone a bit :)
before I forget - I'm also probably going to use it for a 'piece' (that makes it sound so important, doesn't it? like a piece of literature) I'm writing on music in the mid Nineties! I know it might sound daft to use a demo or even if I was using the proper b side it might still seem daft but it seems right to me at the moment because it's just my favourite tune at the moment. There are loads of other songs, Pulp songs in particular with great keyboard 'moments' but this one is the one of the moment. Can't really explain it any further than that :)
Not at all, weed! Cheers for the reply anyway. As I said meself if anyway asks me about a song I'll always go 'Oh yeah that's the Farfisa that', cos I fancy that it makes me sound all intelligent about keyboards and all that. Yeah I mean there are so many Pulp tunes that I don't have. There were a lot of songs that they did around 2000, or 1999 maybe that they played at a few festivals that I don't have. Isn't Road Dahl one of them tunes. It'd be great if all that stuff got an official release. Though I'll have to say I do like a good root 'round the old indepedent record shops! Cheers anyway everyone.
