Beth Ditto was alright, but I think Jarvis is losing the plot. I still hark back to the polyester clad sex god Jarvis of fifteen years ago when I see the tweedy courdroy wearing geography teacher and think where did it all go wrong?
There would be nothing worse than watching Jarvis bare-chested in an Oxfam jacket į la Intro era singing karoke versions of Babies. He's far too interesting for that.
And that duet with Ditto was by far the most interesting thing about the NME awards. Amidst Kasabian and Noel Gallagher's "Let's get pissed bruv" and The View's indecipherable banter (some kind of Dundee vernacular that most of Dundee couldn't understand either), it was truly a cut above. Long live the geography teacher if that's how he behaves.

ArrGee, I do appreciate you saying, "Ithink Jarvis is losing the plot." So many people come here and spout their opinions as if they're fact, and that makes me mad. I don't mind you having an opinion I don't agree with, and it's so refreshing when it's stated as an opinion.

He is far more interesting, which is why I found doing a fairly bland Heaven 17 song a bit jarring. By all means duet with Beth Ditto, but in my opinion, they could have done something far more interesting.
I agree I don't think he should still be wearing the Oxfam suit, but the current geography teacher look and, ahem, taste isn't that interesting to me.
I didn't see Kasabian, Noel or the View, so I'm just judging the duet in its own right.

Thanks! I agree. Nothing wrong with holding a contrary view, I often do! I like Pulp after all
I think Jarv still loads of style, and I think his current look suits him. Every band out there is putting more time into their wardrobes than into their music, so I find Jarv's wash and wear style quite refreshing in the same way I thought it was refreshing 10 years ago when he was the only out there wearing thrift-shop suits. Though, I wouldn't mind if he put on a vintage tie now and then.
And I think it's great that he did this duet with Beth Ditto, since she's like a John Waters film come to life.
But, ah, the cover doesn't really do the song justice. does it? Jarv is off-key.
I'd like to see Jarvis work with more female vocalists. I think he should do an album full of duets.
I was fully prepared to watch that and go "Seriously, that is absolutely fucking awful." But.... I dunno, in spite of itself it seems to have a certain something about it. Knowwhatimean?

Some media sources are reporting that they are recording it in studio this week yet Jarvis' management had said they have no plans to do so. Which is right?
This song could be REALLY great if it wasn't that f* Ditto woman!! She just spoiled the whole song!! She didn't even sing she just CRIED like mad f* bitc*!! But Jarv looked COOL in this song!! anyway it's great to see Jarv with female singers even with that...f*ly fat crying creature... PS: sorry for my emotions...

Yeah, I think I wanted to be more impressed by this song than I actually was. Both Beth & Jarvis weren't in top form, but didn't they say they just came up with the idea right before the show? It's not too bad when you consider they had only rehearsed it once backstage or something. The whole performance was just a bit of a juxtaposition overall.
And Fuss Free, describing Beth as a "John Waters film come to life" is probably the best description I've heard yet! All those pics of her in her undies in the NME really add to that image.
