Can anyone make out the lyrics? Jarv goes quite high in the chorus. Nothing to do with the infamous Stone Roses gig when the "Is everyone sorted for E's and whizz?" phrase landed itself in Jarvis' consciousness ?
On first impressions, I'd say that this is a surefire winner.
Pulp's Island albums usually had 11 or 12 tracks so given that we've now heard 4, they are at least a third of the way there.
I have had a go at transcribing the lyrics on the wiki if anyone wants to improve.
Further reflections on the setlist: whilst I like "Mis-Shapes" as a song, it does nothing for me live, so I am glad to see that it appears to have been replaced. "Monday Morning" was always a great live song so it's a decent replacement. I also think that "Glory Days" should be a permanent part of the setlist as the 2023/4 faster live version is fantastic.

Yeah, judging from Mark's comments on his radio interview, it doesn't sound like they have recorded anything yet with a producer so I guess a new album/single/EP will be next year at the earliest.
Artists are known to be wind up merchants. They will NEVER say anything straight that's for sure. The moment that Hymn Of The North got debuted at Sheffield - and with Candida saying to someone in the queue in London that they will be carrying on into next year - that was more than a hint that something else was on the way.
We have had 4 new songs now, we also know that studio work has been ongoing with Jarvis and the Elysian guys..... Mark who is undoubtedly the shy one in the group ( although his interview this weekend, he has been very open ) revealed that now 4 songs have been played which are new, and also some which are in the stage of "undress"..... There is absolutely no reason for these new songs to exist if they were just "cashing in".
Too much of a stir has been caused worldwide and the ripple effect is a new album.
I love how they seem to be returning to the balladry of His 'N' Hers! And it's so good!
This song - god it's incredible - absolutely smashing.
And Background Noise is as good as nearly anything they've ever done.
ALL the songs are great. And the way the old ones are being played SOUNDS different - the way the Pulp of 2000/01 has a different, discrete sound in the bootlegs. What we're hearing is the sound of a new era...
All in all, intoxicating, intensely exciting stuff.
It's a ride I wish with every fibre of my being to be along with. (My sheer envy at those in the US!!!! Pulp please don't think I care any less)
Ian - I think it's a rotational spot - they seem to shift between playing Mis-Shapes/Monday Morning/Joyriders/O.U. in that spot in the setlist. If you look back at the Hardcore era tour, they had two slots they'd rotate - 5th place in the setlist, and the encore. I think it's the same here, they substitute in with the 3rd song and the encore. FWIW, I love Mis-Shapes and love it live too, but then I've only ever experienced it the three times which may influence matters. (At Brid, once they dedicated it to "all of you", it's always felt a bit special for me)
I'm clenching absolutely every muscle hoping, praying, there's more to come in the UK (and not just at Glasto, but stuff I can afford too hehe). Although after Hogmanay I really do feel I've been spoiled for life!

Turns out Jarvis meant what he said at the tail end of the reunion last time when he mentioned in that Vice interview that if they were to do anything else they'd need to make some new tunes.
This & Background Noise are my favourites so far. Background Noise so far the number 1. But this has got some grit to it.
Looks like if we get another album it will be nicely rounded with some calmer stuff and some more upbeat stuff.
