Our local council has an exhibition every few years called 'The Keeper: Collectors and their collection'. I submitted an application with my Pulp collection which they accepted. The opening was this past Saturday. I was super thrilled to get 3 x vitrines full of my Pulp stuff + a wall of records + poster. Attached are a few photos. I'm sure many of you have all of these items on display but its always been such a hustle trying to get Pulp-related stuff. Not so much these days with ebay and Discogs but very late 90s - early 2000s I might as well have lived on the moon ie. money orders and conversion of Aus $ to Pounds. My Pulp scrapbook is on display which is cool - they were really keen to highlight that - not that you can flip through it because its under glass. If anyone lives this side of the world you can check it out in person at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum.
They asked me to choose 5 x Pulp songs because the comms team at the council put together a Spotify playlist for the exhibition. Being mindful of many Pulp songs 'themes' I chose fairly conservatively - but unfortunately in the end they decided not because they didn't think they would be suitable for all audiences. Not to worry - yet I'm secretly sort of pleased that Pulp are still considered edgy !
So pleased to be taking part and seeing my collection looking quite spiffy and having a curatorial team really into some of the items. I was fairly militant in what I gave them. I wanted to showcase items from when they were a 'working' band and not just Jarvis (who we very much appreciate and love) but show off all the band because they were all fabulous!
I've attached some install images and the didactic which I hope I can score once the exhibition is finished.
Love this. Congrats, cutcopy. I especially love that you kept your own scrapbook of newspaper clippings. That's really cool and I love the council's idea of running an exhibition like this. I would totally go to see similar if they ran it in my locality. Love seeing people's music collections and merchandise.
