I was hanging round the front of the Magna Centre with Scotty hours before Auto started and heard "Taxi for Doyle" - yes, it was her. Candida was very obliging and personally signed a couple of flyers for us.

Oh and all those in the Washington that night (Truth and Beauty book launch party). I spoke to Nick, Richard Hawley and John Nicholls (who recorded demos with Pulp in the mid 80s). I remember saying hello to Magnus Doyle and Steven Havenhand. Tim Allcard and David Hinkler were also there but I don't think I spoke to them.

I have a very fun, maybe i told it already here but anyway

2002. Greece. I was on vacation near Athens and we spent the day visiting a few cyclades islands. We stopped at Hydra island and within a few seconds, as i walking on the sidewalk, i came across a man in a military jacket coming in the other direction.

I stopped for a second, and i couldn't believe it: It was Jarvis ! he joined Steve, his wife and some other girl at a table nearby, so i thought, hey, i'll go and say hello biggrin

So i did, and Jarvis was really, super mega nice. I was kinda shy you know, meeting one of your heroes is something. I tried to talk a bit, but it's Jarvis who did the talking, asking about me, what i was doing there and all. Un-be-lie-vable. Steve was kinda not bothered but then again, i probably didn't salute him.

We then took a couple of pics, and i left them alone. that's it. Probably one of the weirdest moment of my life.

I'll try and find the picture.

Did he have some sort of hippy phase about paper back around then? Lol

Some person told a story about giving out flyers for some gig back like around 2000/2002, and Jarvis took them out of his hand and dropped them to the floor and said it was a waste of fucking trees. I thought it was funny. Esp given they'd just released "The Trees" not too long before that.

Could be he was concerned about the environment or possibly he was saying it was gonna be a really shit gig x)

Jarvis twice, both book-related and both probably a bit awkward on my side. First was at his book launch, where his partner was assisting him and putting the fans at ease as we approached the table where he was sat. I muttered something like ''You're a legend so she must be your legendary girlfriend''...didn't really recover from that. More recently at the British Library, I chatted to him briefly just before Russell's book came out and asked him how he felt about it.

I met Nick after the Sheffield gig at the after-show party where they were all with family/friends so it didn't seem right to approach any of them. At one point Nick was near where we were skulking and I asked him whether he got his safe pair of hands from his uncle (Gordon Banks, the England World Cup winning goalkeeper), but with all the noise and me being a bit incomprehensible (i.e perhaps a bit pissed), I repeated the ''clever'' question but again he didn't seem to get it and just shook his head bemused. He agreed to pose for a picture though which was nice.
The most comfortable/natural exchanges were with Mark after the premiere of the film in Sheffield and Russell at his book launch.

Just need a few crap one-liners with Candida and Steve to complete the set!

Mark several times, Jarvis a few and Steve twice. - the second time was just before Albert Hall when he walked into a pub right behind a load of you off here and I was the only one to recognise him.

I spoke to Steve once at a Desperate sound system. He was really nice and kept coming over to chat (we were both wasted). The next time I went he hid!

Spoke to Jarvis a couple of times at desperate too. The first time I spoke AT him, about shit. He was very tolerant. The next time my then boyfriend did all the talking. He came over and joined us and my ex asked why Trees was a single and not Sunrise. He told us that the record company wouldn't put out such a long song, after releasing This Is hardcore as a single.
I also went to a signing when he put his book out but I just FROZE. His girlfriend tried to get some info out of me but I was gibbering

Met Nick after the Jonathan Ross appearance, I was in a normal people green room and he came into that one to get a drink. Not sure why he came into that room instead of the famous people room
He was lovely, let me get a pic with him (I never do that normally)

Some nice stories here.  I've never met Pulp, I'm too shy for that sort of thing, but I have inadvertently almost walked into Jarvis.  Twice.

1) Edinburgh Film Festival, about 1997, attending 'Mirrorball' - discussion of Pulp's videos with Jarvis, Pedro Romhanyi (yes, I had to look up the spelling), and Mark Cousins.  It was in a seated auditorium, and I'm fussy about getting comfortable, and - watching the stage - I stepped into the aisle to mince about a bit just as Jarvis & co. were coming down it.  He walks quite swiftly!  I had to drop straight back down, blushing.

2) Tate Modern, 2010ish, coming out of a Gauguin show - I was quite excited, jabbering away about the show and not watching where I was going. That time I really did get in Jarvis' way, walking directly into his path (and with a large bench blocking the other side). I was rude, but he didn't say anything, didn't even give me a dirty look.  I was too dumbstruck even to apologise.

These are just two examples of my blundering idiocy - how could I fail to notice a vastly tall man (is he about 6'6" in heels?), who also happens to be the lead singer of my favourite band?

Oh Inspirit you just reminded me, there was a time when I couldn't go to a gig without jarvis being about 5 ft from me. Clinic at the Scala- he was next to me at the bar.... he was a bit whiffy in a big arran type jumper, Primal Scream at victoria park, Verve in hammersmith somewhere, he barged past me that made my night, belle and sebastian at union chapel. He was sat behind me and I actually had to move I was so flustered.
Also sat behind him at that Man Who Fell to Earth screening in Mile End

And when I went to see Jarvis perform with Marianne Faithful Mark Webber sat next to me at the Barbican, before he went to do his stuff on stage (well I think Mark went on stage that night)

I met Jarvis before DEVO's show at his Meltdown Festival. Briefly chatted about DEVO and his (now) ex-wife took a picture of us for me. He was friendly and happy to talk.

I met Jarvis at one of the book signings. I've met a lot of my musical heroes and dealt with it well but I was nervous as hell beforehand. Luckily he was lovely, offered me a grape and I decided to ask him what being a dad was like as I was about to become one. I think he enjoyed not being asked about Pulp as he opened up and seemed to enjoy it!

I met Nick at the second night of Jarvis's solo shows at Plug, as I'm good friends with someone who knows his missus. I spoke to him briefly but didn't feel like he was really in the mood for it so quickly left him alone.

I also got in to Steve Mackey's stag do at Glasto 2009! I know the ex-partner of Simon Stafford and she invited me along to the Tipi fields after we watched Jarvis in the Peel Tent. I was there for a few hours but didn't meet anyone but Simon, who was great. I suddenly had a moment of clarity around 3am and thought if I did meet Jarivs and Steve I'd embarrass myself, so I went back to my tent!
