Pulp special this Saturday + Win a Different Class LP!

Just one more reminder about the first of our Pulp specials this Saturday (24th October) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Different Class.

Burn Down The Disco: Pulp special at O2 Academy2 Islington 10:30pm-3:30am. Not only will you hear every track from Different Class but expect to hear lots of other Pulp rarities that you wouldn't expect to hear as well as the usual Pulp dance floor fillers. Plus, we have the wall of Jarvis, classic Pulp clips on our screens, Jarvis colouring in sheets and of course our age old life-size Jarvis cut out for you to pose with.

We've also got a copy of Different Class on vinyl to give away, details of which will be revealed on the night. Click here for Facebook event

if you can't make it along this weekend though, then we still have our Feeling Gloomy Pulp special on Saturday 7th November where we have a special signed Jarvis book to give away. Don't say we don't give you anything Click here for Facebook event

This was brilliant. Did anyone else go?

Songs I heard for the first and last time in a club:

Death II
Bad cover version
Death goes to the disco
His n hers
Seconds
Party hard
She's a lady

As well as all of Different class and a few more obvious numbers (Babies, DYRTFT, Lipgloss, Razzmatazz etc)

They finished the night with Bar Italia.

Sorry Steven,

that was a little bit negative this morning. When I saw the advert for theis party I really wanted to go. It was simply too far...
Can you tell me, or us, what kind of venue the O2 Academy2 Islington is, how many people were there, was it a mixed audience or more "elder" people? I really would like to know.

I remember a couple of the remixes of "Party Hard" being played in clubs around the time of its release. I've also heard "Bad Cover Version" on the jukebox in the local Ex-Servicemans' Club (not sure if that counts lol).

It's great to hear that it was a brilliant night. Unfortunately, I had work commitments that I had to honour plus travel/accommodation would have been costly. I'm completely up for any sort of Pulp night within reasonable travelling distance from Lancashire. I went to Mark Sturdy's book launch party and that was fantastic, particularly being able to talk to ex band members (i.e. Magnus Doyle) and other hardcore Pulp fans; it's all well and good chatting about our favourite songs and memories from gigs online but I much prefer it face to face.

Apologies Maidmarian and Ian. I haven't been on the forum in months and have just seen that I never replied to your posts!

Maidmarian - The O2 academy is in a shopping centre in Angel. It has a large downstairs venue and smaller upstairs. The Pulp night was in the smaller upstairs venue. It's fairly corporate but because of it's size is fairly cosy and the promoters make an effort to decorate it. The drink selection is terrible - Tuborg, strongbow etc. It was fairly busy - maybe 200 people. It felt like a normal indie night just with a LOT more Pulp. I'd say the audience was late twenties and up! There was even a stag do there! As usual with these sort of nights it was quite male dominated! Hope that's answered all your questions!

Ian - agree I don't think I'd travel to Lancashire for a Pulp club night but when it's nearby it makes sense. Really was amazing to hear some of the early songs in a club - it's so sad that those songs could've been huge and loved by many. Ironically their earlier stuff probably better suited to dancing and clubs!

I'm sure it's on another thread but there's a Pulp night at Nambucca on Holloway Road on 10th June!
