I regret now that I didn't keep and frame the stroppy letter we got from the building society in the early 90s when we ignored their professional advice and took out a repayment mortgage instead of a fancy endowment thingy that we didn't really understand.

I think it's to do with the corny ubiquity of images like 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and that one where he's walking through New York in the rain. They were very popular in the '80's.
