It's also to do with the snooker. They do a lot of the match analysis in the Winter Gardens and there is a whole lot of extra programming on the BBC this year from Sheffield on all sorts of radio and TV channels branded as "Cue Sheffield" and Jarvis' programme with Steve Davis (6 times world snooker champion in the 1980s) is part of that. There's a German Masters tournament, but it's in Berlin now, so not too convenient for you probably.

I really would like to know in which german show Steve Davis was in the 80's... ___________________
The first time I came out here was in the 1980s to Hamburg - a club called Greens, which was ahead of its time," he said. "I did some trick shots live on German TV, a sort of Jonathan Ross-style show, and what they struggled to get their heads around was that I was making a living from it.

because I really, really wish that we would have something here like the Jonathan Ross show.
You are right Fran, Berlin is a little too far from here (round about 600 km) and if I would go, Snooker wouldn't be the reason for a visit

Is that Russell on the right? Doesn't look much like him but could be an odd photo.
Not sure about this "Pulp first performed here" revisionism / conveniently ambiguous wording - it was their third gig!

Doesn't it mean (or at least it could be interpreted as) they played the Leadmill for the first time on that date?
Also, I did wonder if it was Russell too, but surely not? Someone from PRS or the Leadmill maybe? If it is him, or he is there somewhere, I hope someone's on hand to ask him about his book.
I've heard Jarvis describe this before as their first public gig, as though he didn't count playing in his own school as public, but that still doesn't explain it properly. Maybe it was the first place that seemed to him like a proper music venue, or had an audience that wasn't just their mates??? Or it's just his memory! He's cited it as their first gig at times when there was no need to fit into a Leadmill-oriented narrative.
