And so too by extension is Pulp's imperial phase, the point at which their wilderness years were behind them and the trajectory was only going one way, creatively and cashmercially.

A pity it never got a promo video or even a place on the Hits album (it wasn't a hit of course but that compilation should have e been called 'Hits...and Misses' anyway).

It must have felt quite exciting to be in the band around this time. You get a flavour of it from Russell's book. Freed from the shackles of Fire, writing and recording genuinely exciting pop music, what they'd strived for years to do, and getting it released within weeks/a few months rather than years in the case of the Separations era.

Kind of fitting that they were together for the Ivor Novello last week to receive the Outstanding Song Collection Award. It would have been nice for Jarvis to give an "On this day" spiel about Pulp from '92 or maybe earlier to show how far they'd come. To his credit, real world problems like Brexit is more on his mind these days and it feels a bit glib writing this thread with the Manchester attack still raw. But it's at times like these when you do find solace in the things in your life that matter.

Cheers to Pulp - and Warp Records for giving them a much-needed outlet for their music.

Might stick on the 2011 live version of it now.

Oh, here's the PulpWiki entry for the single: http://pulpwiki.net/Pulp/OUSingle

The "on this day" feature also states it's 6 years since the first reunion show too!

Probably my fav ever Pulp song. Just love it all the way down to it's DNA. Sometimes I wonder how many times I've listened to it in the past, nearly, 25 years! 100's, 1000's?

Blimey, that's gone quick. I admit, when i first heard it i just kind of ignored it as one of those typical Pulpy bit of fun for the live sets. How wrong i was, it's bubbles along nicely, I've certainly come to love it over the last few years. Happy birthday.

It got an airing at the Pulp night they had at Islington Academy on Friday. A Pulp covers band played who were pretty decent (all songs were from HnH and DC eras - it is a Britpop night so I guess that was understandable).

Emboldened by hearing PTA being played by the DJ before the band were on, I got him to play Its A Dirty World, which he "single-edited" in real-time by fading it in from when the song fully "drops". Respek'
